The supreme art is to restore, through well-applied rhetoric, to the expression of our thought, the rigidity and truth of its initial stratifications, as well as in spoken language. And the art is to bring this rhetoric back to the point of crystallization necessary to become one with certain real ways of being, feeling and thinking. — In a word, the only lasting writer is the one who knows how to make this rhetoric behave as if it were already thought. And Jean Paulhan who in the Bridge crossed fixed certain ways of our thought to behave in relation to dreams, revealed such stratifications of human thought with infinitely more tact, happiness and certainty than Maeterlink such contingencies of the soul, — by a greater submission to the subject, and by the exact elucidation of this subject.
