The Orangerie Museum in association with the Quai Museum Branly-Jacques Chirac and The Museum of Modern Art, New York (MoMA) offers celebrate his extraordinary personality, still unfairly unknown. The exhibition will show the different facets of this singular character, Quaker physique and deadpan humor, who knew how to reconcile a career as model civil servant, artistic commitment and anarchist beliefs. Columnist, editor at the Revue Blanche, art critic, publisher - he published The Illuminations of Rimbaud -, gallery owner, Fénéon was also a exceptional collector who brings together a significant number of masterpieces including a unique set of African and Oceanian sculptures. Support unconditional fan of neo-impressionism, discoverer of Seurat, director artistic of the Bernheim-Jeune gallery, defending fauvism, futurism, Matisse, Fénéon's role on the artistic scene of the early 20th century was determining.
The exhibition will bring together an exceptional collection of paintings and drawings by Seurat, Signac, Degas, Bonnard, Modigliani, Matisse, Derain, Severini, Balla, etc., African and Oceanian pieces as well as documents and archives.
