Portrait de Jacques Audiberti

Jacques Audiberti

There are poets whose ambition is to know life; they use what is most indestructible in language: the most worn words, the common nouns reduced to their root.
Other poets claim to recreate the world, to make it more real than nature, offering it to us as a solid external object. They are looking for the the least used, most personal words.
Audiberti has no such worries: he struggles with words who come to him in too many numbers. He thinks that by reducing them, handle and rework them, he will let them take on a meaning that they possess without knowing it. He tries them, he feels them, he risks them. What does he find at the end so much effort? It's a kind of golden language, a language made of proverbs and maxims, which resembles a rite even more than everyday language. A language that sings while dancing, which in turn has wings and big shoes. Which makes one think, in its best moments, of Rutebeuf and Villon.
